The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
